Walk Walk Walk ....

Postby John L » Sat Apr 05, 2008 11:24 am

Daily Walking is a great way to begin exercise. It's simple, free, and a great way to keep your heart pumping. All you need is a pair of good walking shoes and comfortable clothes and you are ready to begin. Start off easily with your new walking regimen. Walk for 10 minutes, turn around and walk back. Always maintain good posture. Continue this 20-minute walk for five days a week. Add five more minutes to your daily walk if this routine gets easy. Keep adding five minutes to your walk when you feel ready to increase your distance. Remember to always drink plenty of water and to stretch before and after each walking session.

Stay with it. The hardest part of exercising is keeping up the habit. Have a friend join you to stay motivated.

Walking is the best way to lose weight because you actually burn stored fat. Whereas, when you run your body looks for a quick burning energy source which is usually your muscle. When you are trying to lose weight, muscle is the last thing you want to lose because it helps burn calories all day. Make sure you diet is check because this is obviously the main cause. Stick within a certain amount of calories, I would suggest doing 30-45 minutes of weight training and then 30-45 minutes of low intensity cardio. This means cardio that wont make you out of breath. It is only possible to lose 2 lbs a week healthely otherwise you are loseing muscle mass and too much water.

Hi everyone, I have been walking for some years and based on my experience I would advise brisk walking with a small set of hand weights and bending arms up and down as you walk . Walking is really great for toning your body up. This method will let your body get used to the exercise and allows you to tone arms aswell.

This is very good advice - especially for being someone who is very overweight, I dont want something that is too hard on my knees. Walking is fantastic, I walk both outdoors and on a treadmill - it certainly gets my heart pumping plus its good for you to get some fresh air.

I have lost 10lbs in the past over a period of a month for just walking 1.5 hours a day to and from work - its brilliant.

Thank you again :D
