:: On power walking ::

Power walking is a great excercise... and its easy

Many people know what power walking is, but still many do not have any idea in particular about power walking or atleast they need more details.

Walk 5 or 10 minutes, then jog about the same, very slow to begin with. Alternate this way until your time is up - start at 15 or 20 minutes if you need to, then work up to 45 to 60 minutes. Gradually, run longer, walking less. Keep it slow and under control. When it gets easy go a little faster.

The biggest problem most people have is trying to just go and run. They run too long and too fast for their conditioning. Patience is the key. Make sure you are breathing, not gasping for breath. Slow down if your breathing becomes labored. The running speed will come as your overall conditioning improves. Just be patient.

Know how long your jogging for, not just until you can't do it. You'll always have to push through the "I can't go any more!" stage. The game is mental as well as physical. Master the mental, the physical will take care of itself.

Good luck to you. Remember, be patient with yourself. It takes time.

For optimum calorie burning, it is recommend aiming to walk at about a 4.5-mile per hour (mph) pace.

You can burn almost as many calories (201 per 30 minutes, based on a 140-pound woman) as someone jogging at about the same speed (223 calories per 30 minutes) because you're using the same amount of energy to stay in motion.
